Aztecs Today: What to watch for By Kevin Gemmell, San Diego Union-Tribune Staff Writer 2:00 a.m. October 31, 2009
What to watch for: Avoid a meltdown. The Aztecs are coming off an emotional road win, and in one week, expectations have skyrocketed. There has even been some bowl game chatter ? rare in these parts. Meanwhile, coach Brady Hoke and Co. are playing the one-game-at-a-time card. New Mexico gets head coach Mike Locksley back after missing last week's loss to UNLV because of a suspension for an altercation with a former assistant coach. Statistically, the Lobos are a train wreck. They are among the worst in the country in several key categories, including total offense (110 out of 120 FBS schools), scoring offense (118) and sacks allowed (116). That bodes well for defensive coordinator Rocky Long, who faces the team he coached for 11 years. The Aztecs defense generated two sacks and two turnovers in last week's win over Colorado State.
