Dallas state champ commits to UNM

Controversial Jarion Henry of Dallas has become the third player to commit to the University of New Mexico men's basketball team when he announced Sunday night that he would be coming to UNM.

Henry, who is listed at 6-7 or 6-8, is from Dallas Kimball High School. UNM reportedly beat out Georgetown and Marquette of the Big East, Southern Cal and Oregon of the PAC-10, Miami (Fla.) of the ACC and Texas-El Paso of C-USA.

But last week, Henry became the center of controversy when he went he made an online video full of racial remarks and asking for black women to contact his friend. He uses the N word several times.

Henry said on the video that he would be spending just one season with the Lobos, stating that it would be "one and done" and then he was moving on to the pros. UNM coach Steve Alford and his staff would not be allowed to comment on Henry until he actually has signed a letter of intent.

According to Eric Bossi of Rivals.com, Henry made the announcement Sunday night on a Dallas-area TV station. Rivals list him as the No. 84 prospect in the nation in the class of 2011 at 6-7 and makes him a four-star prospect.

ESPN lists him a 6-8.

``Jarion is a left-handed skilled small forward who can do a little bit of everything on the floor,'' the ESPN analysis says. ``Once he puts the ball on the floor everything is to the rim. Jarion fills the lane for easy baskets at the rim, and continuously keeps balls alive on the offensive glass for second and third opportunities.''

The ESPN report goes on to say that his 3-point shooting is inconsistent but that his ceiling is unlimited.

The Lobos already had signed two players. Domonique Dunning of Corona, Calif., Centennial was named to the second-team of the Los Angeles Times Boys All-Stars this season. The 6-4 shooting guard averaged 20.4 points and 8.3 rebounds this season and finished his high school career with 2,043 points.

Hugh Greenwood, a 6-3 guard out of Hobart, Australia who has international experience, also had signed.
